SpiceSnapp ("we," "our," or "the app") is a personal spice inventory management application. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
Information We Collect
Information you provide directly:
- Account Information: If you choose to create an account for cloud sync, we collect your username and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address from those services.
- Spice Inventory Data: Names, brands, barcodes, images, quantities, expiration dates, and notes about your spices.
- Photos: Images you capture using the camera for barcode scanning or AI cabinet scanning. These images are processed to identify spices and are not stored on our servers after processing.
- Voice Input: If you use voice search, audio is sent to our server for transcription and immediately discarded after processing.
Information collected automatically:
- Device Information: Device type and operating system version for app compatibility.
- Usage Data: Basic app interaction data to improve the user experience.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the spice inventory management service
- To sync your inventory data across devices (if you opt in to cloud sync)
- To look up barcode product information from third-party databases
- To process cabinet photos for AI-powered spice identification
- To transcribe voice searches
- To generate spice descriptions and recommendations
- To send expiration reminder notifications (if enabled by you)
Data Storage and Security
Your spice inventory is primarily stored locally on your device. If you create an account, your data may also be stored on our secure servers for cloud backup and sync purposes.
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure password hashing, and access controls to protect your data.
Third-Party Services
SpiceSnapp uses the following third-party services:
- Open Food Facts: For barcode product lookups (open database, their terms)
- UPCitemdb: For additional barcode product lookups
- OpenAI: For AI-powered features including cabinet scanning, voice transcription, and spice descriptions. Data sent to OpenAI is processed according to OpenAI's Privacy Policy
- Amazon: For spice reorder links (you are redirected to Amazon's website; we do not process purchases)
- Apple Sign-In / Google Sign-In: For optional authentication
Your Rights and Choices
- Offline Use: You can use SpiceSnapp entirely offline without creating an account. No data leaves your device in offline mode.
- Data Deletion: You can delete individual spices or your entire inventory at any time from within the app. If you have an account, you can request complete account deletion.
- Notifications: Expiration reminders are optional and can be enabled or disabled in Settings.
- Camera and Microphone: You control access to your camera and microphone through your device's permission settings.
Children's Privacy
SpiceSnapp is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information.
Data Retention
Your local inventory data is retained on your device until you delete it. If you use cloud sync, server-side data is retained until you delete your account or request data removal. Voice recordings and cabinet scan images are processed in real-time and not stored after processing.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by updating the "Last updated" date above.
